About Me
"Today I am literally called on from around the world to treat clients, which seems quite mad considering my first real interest was sparked in 1984 by offering to make beds in a local hospital to aid my application as a nurse. It was whilst I was there I met an older family friend who was the physiotherapist with 26 years of experience. When our paths crossed a year or so later it was in a professional capacity and she was amazing she really involved me as part of the team and developed my skills at a rate of knots and I loved it. Later still within the hospital I was able to secure more time with a different sets of physiotherapists and occupational therapists by offering to go in on days off or before or after shifts as well as my shift contact-time. I worked with them directly in a very hands on role with patients’’ re-habing them to ensure they were able to as flexible as possible, to reduce pain and improve their general well-being and in more serious cases remain independent. I have been successfully treating pain & injury since then.
Further experience & recommendations led me to pursue training in 1986, when I trained in Indian Head Massage & lymph drainage. In 1992 I was taught by a highly respected Midwife in the use of reflexology & essential oils for inducing labour & reducing pain.
In 1994 I was diagnosed with cancer, which wasted so much precious time... But I trained as a Counsellor during this time, improving my empathy & communication skills on many levels. In 1996 I beat cancer & started to recover, whilst also qualifying as a nutritional advisor. In 1995 I studied Reiki, & by now was using massage, essential oils and herbs, stretching and manipulation, reflexology & Reiki for all sorts of conditions.
In 2002 I went back to college & re-qualified in all my therapies to satisfy insurance requirements, as well as adding achieving my Reiki Master & Karuna . And whilst there I was asked to teach to groups of FE and HE students, which I did for two years and the third year I took a more involved role of running the admin for 150 students as well as teaching. But my passion was still much’ to do as opposed to teach’ so I waved good-bye to the teaching (for now) in September 2007 and headed back into my favourite facilitation role, back to hands-on practice. Since then I have subsequently continued to add qualifications and extensive study of new varied techniques to my portfolio.
Being Cornish and very local to the area I had treated many clients some of whom worked at the Hotel Tresanton. Following glowing reports, the manager (in 2004) contacted Dawn directly with a view to her offering her treatments 'in house'. Many clients who return regularly book Dawn in advance to ensure a treatment with her. Here's what some of them have said...
I am as passionate about my work now as when I first started to help people more than 20 years ago. I have been asked many times to classify myself or describe what I do, and to be frank until May 2010 I always struggled to answer. I used to say that I think beyond the realms of a classic or 'conventional' massage & instead rely on a lifetime of learning, practical experience, instinct & success to find the right treatment for each individual on the day.
It was during a period of change in my life, realising I had an alternative spiritual home(London!!) and after the financial crash of 2008 which pushed me to realise I wanted to spend more time in London. Quickly I realised that I was great at treating people when it came to computers and marketing I was clueless. However, and luckily, I worked closely with another specialist in her field Wendy Powell
Who offered assistance and advice every step of the way as she knew so much more than I. The next realisation was I needed to clarify so many issues prior to promotion- how can you promote something that has no name and to whom? It was through that thought and clarification process I realised I has three’ types’ of clients and if not marketed correctly it could be spectacularly undervalued or completely missed by the person who was most in need.
The first set of clients/ patients viewed me as an immensely powerful and) remarkably strong masseuse/ physio type, with a determination and passion in my role to ‘help people’
Many hard core business people with a mountain of commuting, overseas business trips stress and pressure coupled with poor posture at work, inadequate or the wrong type of exercise resulting in massive tension and stiffness resulting in lack of mobility and movement, migraines, jaw problems, unlevel uneven tense shoulders, and hip and lower back issues or clients very serious about their levels of fitness and needed a ‘real’ workout.
The second were those who marvel at my amazing ‘powers’ to profoundly relax, heal, understand and hear exactly what they are saying, then experience a unique and powerful treatment that facilitates the removal of the emotion based stress and lessen (often irradiating) the symptoms of stress (either physical or emotional) leading to the most rested sleep that evening (great for insomniacs) and the positive feeling of well-being and calm and ability to face ‘normal’ day to day routine. I have used the Maga™ Technique to start labour/ delivery and control pain various illnesses and complaints from a ceased big toe joint to terminal cancer. Diverse? I’ll say so!
The third that just come in get onto the couch Those lucky clients who trusted the logical practical/ medical approach coupled with a ‘free thinking’ intuitive approach have received a treatment providing both a powerful physical and emotional response they could ever have hoped for let alone find!
They simple have a chat me her asses them and let the body tell the full story! They report back numerous benefits post-treatment they never imagined possible.
Interestingly, and worse still most of the clients in London and surrounding areas knew me as the best deep tissue/ remedial/ sports massage therapist, which I played out perfectly and would not be aware of the ‘other side’ of the Maga™ Technique. Clients in rural areas saw me as so much more, powerful healer, and gave me the amazing accolade of ‘Cornwalls’ Best Kept Secret’ who could help with the widest range of issues.
So, finally in May 2010 I sat down and thought it all through, realised my problem and set my mind to it.
Being Cornish born and bred, I felt it fitting to use a Cornish Celtic word for a technique partly learned but certainly developed in Cornwall.. This swiftly lead to 'Maga' the Cornish word for Nurture which was subsequently submitted for ™ and instantly I was able to explain with a level of confidence I have never experienced before exactly what I do..............proving without doubt that indeed it’s all in a word! So welcome to my wonderful creation The Maga™ Technique. Believe me when I say I developed it with you in mind.”
